Vicksburg Hardware to remain open after sale

Paper City Development, the local entity owned by Vicksburg native Chris Moore, has purchased Vicksburg Hardware from longtime owner Steve Schimp.

As he intended, Moore then sold Vicksburg Hardware to local couple Johnny and Melani DeBault. The deal calls for Paper City to own the building and the DeBaults to own the business. The move ensures Vicksburg Hardware will remain open and in downtown Vicksburg.

In addition to Vicksburg Hardware, two 142-year-old buildings – at 112 and 116 S. Main Street in downtown Vicksburg – were also included in the transaction.

The store’s staff, hours and offerings are expected to remain the same for the time being. Schimp had owned and operated the 5,900-square-foot, Do-It-Best Vicksburg Hardware store since 1988.
