Charles Monroe, 90

Charles Frederick Monroe, age 90, of White Pigeon, passed away Sunday, November 12, 2023 at the home of his son, Tim in Colorado Springs.

He was born February 14, 1933 in Sturgis, son of the late Charles Robert and Faye (Miller) Monroe.

Mr. Monroe resided in White Pigeon since 1998, coming from Sturgis, where he was a graduate of Sturgis High School with the class of 1951.

On October 15, 1955 he married Barbara E. Garton in Philadelphia. She preceded him in death on October 30, 2009.

Chuck retired in 1998 from Burr Oak Tool & Gauge in Sturgis following 37 years of dedicated employment as a tool & die maker.

He was a member of the Three Rivers Bible Church.

Chuck was proud to have served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War, earning the rank of Corporal.

He enjoyed fishing especially ice fishing and was a loyal fan of the University of Michigan Wolverines football team and the Detroit Tigers and Red Wings. Chucks greatest love, however, was the love he had for his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Chuck made the decision to follow Christ, when he was just sixteen years old, during an altar call at the Sturgis Bible Chapel (Gospel Hall). From then on he dedicated his life to serving his Lord, raising his family in the same church, serving as a Deacon and also serving on the Board of Directors at Bair Lake Bible Camp for many years. Chuck never hesitated to openly share his faith and to give generously to missions all over the world.

Chuck is survived by his children: Mark (Patricia) Monroe of LaGrange, Jan (David) Adamson of Willard, Utah; and Tim (Kris) Monroe of Colorado Springs; 12 grandchildren: Scott Adamson, Rachel (Joshua) Brittin, Kirsten (Trentice) Schipper, Summer (Lewis) Moreno, Candice Adamson, Shelemiah (Christopher) Blood, Joshua Monroe, Bethel Monroe, Rebecca (Phillip) Mosher, Anna (Dennis) Bontrager, Sarah (James) Cosgrove and Benjamin (Edlin) Monroe; 16 great grandchildren; two great great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife; great grandchild: Micah Brittin; sisters: Arletta Kreider and Thelma Hall and brothers: Robert Monroe and Larry Monroe.

Funeral services celebrating the life of Charles F. Monroe will be held at 11:00 A.M., Saturday, Dec. 2nd at the Rosenberg Chapel of Hackman Family Funeral Homes, 807 E. Chicago Rd. in Sturgis. A graveside committal will follow the service at Oak Lawn Cemetery in Sturgis. Full military honors will be conferred by Captain John J. Kelley Post #1355 VFW and the U.S. Army Honor Guards.
