Christine Anne Saunders, age 55, of Mendon, passed away at her home on Monday, November 27, 2023 surrounded by her family after battling a long illness. She was born in Sturgis, the daughter of Philip and Maureen (Carkenord) Cupp. Chris graduated from Mendon High School with the class of 1986 and went on to play volleyball at Kalamazoo Valley Community College. She enjoyed being on the water; river, lake, ocean, or stream, she enjoyed being outdoors. Chris liked to travel to the Outer Banks in North Carolina and to the Upper Peninsula here in Michigan. She was an avid supporter of 4-H and an animal lover. Chris would often be seen donating her hard-earned money playing Club Keno. Most importantly, she loved spending time with her family, whether it was attending sporting events for her children or celebrating the annual “Cupp Camp”, she loved her family.
Chris is survived by her husband Don Saunders. 5 children; Emma (Gabriel) Keely, Nathan (Sophia Piecyk) Eberstein, Ethan (Brittany Hartman) Eberstein, Nicholas (Marissa Norris) Eberstein, and Erin (Marcus) Hudetz. 2 grandchildren; Katherine Hudetz and Meghan Hudetz. Her mother, Maureen Cupp. 12 siblings; Susan Vrobel, Phyllis Cupp, Judy (Mike) Skrypek, Roger Cupp, Jill (Dune) Batten, Jannette (Tony) Campbell, Rodney (Donna) Cupp, Mary Lovell, Doug (Tonya May) Cupp, Jayne (Fred) Medich, Patty (Glen) Samson, and Greg (Amy) Cupp. MANY cousins, nieces, nephews, and her favorite child – the dog Charlie. She was preceded in death by her father Phil, and her brother-in-law Mike Vrobel.
The family will receive friends on Monday, December 4, 2023 at the Eickhoff Funeral Home (311 W. Main St, Mendon, MI 49072) from 10am to 12noon and 2 to 4pm and 6 to 8pm. A funeral mass for Chris will take place on Tuesday, December 5, 2023 at St Edward Catholic Church (332 W State St, Mendon, MI 49072) at 11am with Msgr Thomas Martin officiating. Following the mass, cremation will be conducted. Memorials and donations in Christine’s name may be made out to the American Cancer Society.
