Doris A. Frohriep, age 87, of Sturgis, passed away early Friday morning, November 3, 2023 at Thurston Woods Village in Sturgis.
She was born July 3, 1936 in Kalamazoo, daughter of the late Sanford E. and Anna (Robbins) Kessler.
Mrs. Frohriep resided in Sturgis nearly her entire life and was a graduate of Sturgis High School with the class of 1954.
On October 17, 1959 she married Earl A. Frohriep in Sturgis. He preceded her in death March 30, 2017.
Most of Mrs. Frohriep’s working life was as an insurance agent. She began her career with the Bucknell Agency in Sturgis, where she worked for several years before accepting a position with the English and Kelley Agency retiring from W.E. English Insurance in 2002.
She was a longtime active member of the Trinity Lutheran Church and Ladies Aid in Sturgis.
Doris enjoyed playing cards and was a member of the Blabbermouths Euchre Club. She also enjoyed sewing and quilting. What made Doris the happiest was time spent with her family, especially her grandchildren. She and Earl could always be found in attendance at any of their sporting events and activities.
She is survived by her daughter: Emily (Paul) Stemen of Sturgis; grandchildren: Sara Stemen of Sturgis and Nathan (Alexandra) Stemen of Chicago, Illinois; sister: Norma Cobbs of Monroe, Ohio; brother: Jay (Kathy) Kessler of Howe, Indiana; sister-in-law: Elenora Emerson of Manistee and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 4:00 to 7:00 P.M., Monday, November 6th at the Hackman Chapel of Hackman Family Funeral Homes, 114 S. Nottawa St. in Sturgis. Funeral services celebrating the life of Doris A. Frohriep will take place at 11:00 A.M., Tuesday, Nov. 7th at the Trinity Lutheran Church, 406 S. Lakeview Ave. in Sturgis. The Revs. Larry Matro and Calvin Kolzow will officiate. A graveside committal will follow the service at Oak Lawn Cemetery in Sturgis.
