Harvey Whitcomb, 91

Harvey Max Whitcomb, age 91, of Sturgis, passed away Saturday morning, November 4, 2023 at his home.

He was born September 15, 1932 in Bethel Township, Branch County, Michigan son of the late Randall and Lucile (Hillyer) Whitcomb.

Mr. Whitcomb resided in Sturgis since 1957 coming from Branch County, where he was a graduate of Bronson High School with the class or 1951.

On August 3, 1957 he married Beverly Lea Pierson at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Sturgis.

Harvey retired from the Kirsch Company in Sturgis following over 20 years of dedicated employment, and he was a farmer.

Harvey was proud to have served his country in the U.S. Navy from Dec. 18, 1952 – Nov. 26, 1956.

He was a member of the St. John’s Lutheran Church in Sturgis and also a member of Neuman-Wenzel Post #73 American Legion and the Northeast Indiana Gas and Steam Engine Club.

He had a love for the outdoors and enjoyed hobby farming with his antique tractors, camping, traveling, attending his U.S. Navy reunions, restoring antique tractors and going to tractor shows, and always had a project he was tinkering with in his barn.

Harvey is survived by his loving and dedicated wife of 66 years Beverly; daughter: Lynette (Jim) Taulbee of Stanton; sons: Vaughn (Karen) Whitcomb and Myron (Joanne) Whitcomb both of Sturgis; seven grandchildren: Amanda, Jeremy, Kimberly, Nick, Hailey, Korbin and Korin; eight great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; son: Brian Lynn Whitcomb; grandsons: Corey Whitcomb and Max Taulbee; sister: Virginia Fisher and brother: Jerry Whitcomb.

In accordance with his wishes cremation has taken place. A memorial graveside service and interment of the remains will take place at 1:00, Tuesday, Nov. 14th at Oak Lawn Cemetery in Sturgis. Longtime family friend Mr. David Weiderman will officiate. Full military honors will be conferred by Captain John J. Kelley Post #1355 and the U.S. Navy Honor Guards. A continued time of fellowship will follow the graveside service at American Legion Post #73, 500 W. Chicago Rd. in Sturgis.
