Program offered free rides Thanksgiving Eve

Free Ride Home, a program sponsored last week by St. Joseph County Transportation Authority, drew a total of 17 participants.

CTA executive director Allen Balog said the seven-hour program started at 7 p.m. Wednesday to benefit Thanksgiving Eve revelers.

Balog said 10 of the patrons rode the Sturgis-based bus while seven took advantage of the bus positioned in Three Rivers.

Balog said drivers reported nothing unusual and the 17 riders expressed their appreciation for the service. Balog said the Sturgis bus driver indicated a party of five picked up later in the night appeared to be in need of the service due to the extent of their merriment.

Event sponsors were Tomahawk Tavern, the In-Between restaurant, Nottawa Gas, Wings Etc., Ashley’s Sweet Treats and Hackenberg/Schreiber Insurance.

Free Ride Home will be offered again New Year’s Eve. Balog said the agency will be happy to take on any sponsorship to help support the program.
