Woman sentenced in embezzlement case

A longtime employee at a Schoolcraft-area business was ordered to pay nearly $200,000 in restitution after she was caught embezzling from the company.

Sarah Lynn Bauserman, who lives in Climax, was recently convicted on one count of embezzlement and sentenced to probation through July 2026. In addition, she is required to repay $189,000, a stipulation she has since fulfilled.

Bauserman worked at Fluid Power Engineering in Schoolcraft Township.

The embezzlement was discovered a year ago, authorities said. Bauserman was office manager for nearly 20 years at the family-owned business.

Investigators said company officials became suspicious when Bauserman was on medical leave and they reviewed financial records kept by Bauserman. An accountant reviewed an exhaustive amount of paperwork and noticed additional irregularities.

In all, it appears Bauserman was embezzling from the company for six years, officials said.
