Charles Dittman, 87

Charles S. Dittman, age 87, of Sturgis, passed away Friday morning, December 1, 2023 at Thurston Woods Village in Sturgis.

He was born February 12, 1936 in Indiana, only child of the late Nova and Chlois (Rosenbaum) Dittman.

Charles resided in Sturgis since 1989, coming from Sterling Heights. His early life was spent in Campbellsburg, Indiana.

While working at Hillsdale College, he looked out his office window and saw a young lady walking across campus. One look and he knew he was going to marry this girl and on September 30, 1961 he married Shirley Sue Fowler in Reading, Michigan. She preceded him in death October 31, 2015.

Most of his working life was in sales. While living in Sterling Heights he was a furniture salesman. After moving to Sturgis he accepted a sales position with Kool Chevrolet, and retired from S&S Automotive, both in Sturgis.

Charles was proud to have served his country in the U.S. Air Force.

He was a member of the Sturgis Hospital Popcorn Guild and the Michiana Audubon Society. Charles had a love of the outdoors, nature, and animals, especially horses. He and Shirley enjoyed going to draft horse pulls.

He is survived by his two daughters: Lisa Sue Dittman and Michelle Lynne (Allen) Clouse both of Sturgis; grandson: David (Kristen) Clouse of Eaton, Ohio and cousin: Faye.

In accordance with his wishes cremation has taken place. A gathering of family and friends to celebrate and honor the life of Charles S. Dittman will be held in the spring of 2024.

The Hackman Family Funeral Homes of Sturgis is entrusted with the arrangements.

In honoring Charles’ love for animals the family suggests memorial donation be directed to See Me Home Senior Dog Sanctuary, 25019 Featherstone Rd., Sturgis, MI 49091 or ASPCA P.O. Box 96929, Washington, DC 20090.
