Coldwater receives road work grants

Coldwater municipal officials received some good news last week.

Gov. Gretchen Whitmer said Coldwater is one of 11 recipients of funding for local road work.

In all, the grants equal $4 million. Coldwater’s share is $375,000, which it will use to resurface Butters Avenue, between Garfield Avenue and Race Street. In addition, the undertaking will include curb and gutter installation, as well as drainage improvements.

City officials said Butters Road – a designated emergency route in the event U.S. 12 is closed – has deteriorated to the point that its use under such circumstances would be a potential problem.

Total cost of the project is about $1 million. Coldwater is on the hook to pay the $675,000 balance.
