James Frisbie, 86

James M. Frisbie, age 86, of Colon passed away on Thursday, December 14, 2023, at Maple Lawn Medical Care Facility in Coldwater.

James was born on December 14, 1937, in Three Rivers, a son to the late Lloyd and Laura (Sturges) Frisbie. James graduated from Colon High School with the class of 1956.

On October 19, 1957, James married his wife of 66 years, Barbara L. Hagelgans at St. Edward’s Catholic Church in Mendon.

James owned and operated the Magic City Hardware in Colon for many years. He also worked as a salesman for Hemel Chevrolet in Colon for several years until retiring in 1999. James served on the Colon Fire Department for 36 years, 18 of those years James served as fire chief. James was one of the original founding members of the Colon Rescue Squad as well.

Surviving James is his wife Barbara L. Frisbie of Colon, children: Elizabeth (Tim) Barrington of Colon, Charles (Kathleen) Frisbie of Gladwin, Steven (Lorene) Frisbie of Battle Creek, William (Kristen) Frisbie of Colon, Jean (Randy) Kramb of Three Rivers, daughter in law Laura Frisbie of Three Rivers, 16 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren, and brother Hugh Frisbie of San Diego.

Besides his parents, Lloyd and Laura Frisbie, James was preceded in death by his son, Tom Frisbie.

The Frisbie family will receive friends and relatives from 4 to 8 PM on Sunday, December 17, 2023, at the Schipper Funeral Home LTD. in Colon. A funeral service celebrating James’ life will be held on Monday, December 18, 2023, at 11:00 AM also at the Schipper Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Lakeside Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family asks memorial donations be made to the Colon Rescue Squad. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
