Phyllis Prather Hanley, 92

Phyllis Schermerhorn Prather Hanley, age 92, of Atlanta, Georgia, and a former longtime Sturgis and Howe resident, passed away on December 7, 2023 at Phoenix Assisted Living in Atlanta.

She was born on her family farm, November 2, 1931 in LaGrange, daughter of the late Raymond and Ruth (Isabell) Schermerhorn.

Phyllis is survived by her six children, Susan Prather, Janet (Greg) Miller, Stan (Pearl) Prather, Tim (Laurie) Miller, Matt Miller and Andy (Linda) Miller, 11 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren and many loving nieces and nephews.

Phyllis spent most of her adult life in Dayton, Ohio and Sturgis, with her husband of 55 years Dick Prather, often vacationing in Florida during the winter months. After Dick Prather passed away in 2005, she continued spending winters in Florida and ultimately met Dick Hanley, a widower from Minnesota. She and Dick Hanley married in 2010 and until his death in 2020 enjoying their blended families of 13 children.

A memorial service will be held at a later date at the First Presbyterian Church in Sturgis. Her ashes will be placed next to her beloved Dick Prather in the columbarium of First Presbyterian Church in Sturgis.

The Hackman Family Funeral Homes of Sturgis is entrusted with the arrangements.
