Rex Morey, Sr., 78

Rex A. Morey, Sr., age 78, of Sturgis, passed away Tuesday, December 19, 2023 at the Windsor Medical Center in North Canton, Ohio.

He was born on July 26, 1945 in Sturgis, son of the late Earl and Rosetta (Krontz) Morey, Sr.

Rex resided his entire life in Sturgis before moving to North Canton in March of 2023 to be closer to his son, Rex Jr.

On May 14, 1983 he married Gail R. Farnham in Sturgis. She preceded him in death January 22, 2023.

Most of Rex’s working life was in maintenance. He retired from Lake Park Industries in Shipshewana. Prior to joining Lake Park, he had been employed by Duo Therm Division of Motor Wheel Corporation in LaGrange for many years.

He was a graduate of Sturgis High School with the class of 1963 and member of the National Rifle Association, St. Joseph County Conservation Club, Single Action Shooting Society, and the Good Sam Club. He enjoyed machine and mechanical work, his guns, traveling to Florida with Gail in their motorhome, and he loved just hanging out in his garage.

Rex is survived by his children: Rex (Christine) Morey, Jr. of Alliance, Ohio, Jennifer Buchanan of Sturgis, Misty Barnes of Three Rivers and Michael Morey of Alliance, Ohio; grandchildren: Paige, Kristen, Alyssa, Anthony, Grace, Ashley, Abigail, Olivia and Wyatt; great grandchildren: Madalyn, Hayden, Henry, Hudson and Elizabeth and nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, and brother: Earl Morey.

The family will receive friends from 12:00 to 2:00 Saturday, Dec. 23rd at the Rosenberg Chapel of Hackman Family Funeral Homes, 807 E. Chicago Rd. in Sturgis where funeral services celebrating the life of Rex A. Morey will immediately follow the visitation at 2:00. Rex’s son, Pastor Rex Morey, Jr. will officiate. A graveside committal will follow the service at Oak Lawn Cemetery in Sturgis.
