SJC Sheriff’s Dept – Special enforcement project

The U.S. Department of Transportation’s National Highway Traffic Safety Administration is working alongside the St. Joseph County Sheriff’s Department to decrease impaired driving.

Starting Friday and continuing through Jan. 1, sheriff’s deputies will be participating in the “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” enforcement period.

ln support of the law enforcement community’s dedication to protecting the lives of local residents, deputies will be working to take impaired drivers off the roads. Deputies will be on the lookout for motorists under the influence of drugs and alcohol throughout the enforcement period.

About 40 percent of fatalities on Michigan roadways involve alcohol and/or drugs, according to the University of Michigan Transportation Research Institute.
