Centreville’s Local is closing

The Local Beer Cellar & Pizza Oven, a downtown Centreville restaurant and bar that opened in 2014, is closing Saturday. Daniel Templin, who owns the business with his wife, Jamie, confirmed the news over the weekend.

He said he and his wife looked at all options and concluded the only practical business move was to suspend operations.

Templin said a number of factors went into the decision to close, including the increasing cost of running a restaurant. He said The Local, the only place in town that serves alcohol for on-site consumption, has about 20 people on its payroll.

In an effort to liquidate product, drinks are now half off and menu items will be sold until inventory has been exhausted, he said.

In the post-COVID world, Templin was forced to trim hours of operation and the business was closed Mondays and Tuesdays due to a staffing shortage.

The Local is the second eatery to close in the community within the past three months. McDonald’s shut its Centreville location Oct. 31.
