Indiana State Police troopers are looking into a crash that led to the death Thursday of a tow-truck driver from Sturgis.
Investigators said crews were cleaning up a diesel spill and removing a semi-truck from the center median that had crashed Thursday on the Indiana Toll Road in LaGrange County.
A 2021 Dodge Ram towing an enclosed trailer and heading eastbound lost control, went through the median and sideswiped the tow truck parked on the inside shoulder of westbound lanes.
The pickup continued in the median, hitting the tow truck driver and semi-truck, according to authorities.
The tow truck driver, 63-year-old Martin Troyer, was pronounced dead at the scene. A worker cleaning the diesel spill was also hurt but is expected to recover, according to responders.
State police officials identified the driver of the Dodge Ram as a 31-year-old man from Brooklyn, N.Y.
Troopers said it appears driving too fast for road conditions was a factor in the incident.
