Local restaurant offers no-judgement meal tickets

A Constantine restaurant owner’s idea to give back around the holidays has grown into a movement involving many people weeks later.

WOOD-TV recently featured Katrina Carpenter, owner of Piper’s Grinders Galore.

Carpenter said a so-called “no-judgment” meal ticket board was added to the Constantine eatery back in November.

The meal ticket board features receipts of meals paid for by customers. The tickets were posted on the bulletin board at the front of the restaurant and could be redeemed with no questions asked.

WOOD-TV said hundreds of people commented, liked and shared the benevolent gesture.

Carpenter said meals started being redeemed right away. Since then, many people have stepped up to replace the used tickets with new ones for meals such as a free sandwich and drink or a large pizza with garlic bread.

In addition to taking donations over the phone, Carpenter has set up a Venmo account where people can donate a dollar amount or purchase a specific meal.
