Union City man dies in hot-air balloon crash

A Union City man is one of four people who died in a hot-air balloon crash over the weekend in Arizona.

Chayton Wiescholek, 28, was in the basket of the balloon with four other people when it crashed. One of the five, a 23-year-old Arizona woman – survived but is in critical condition, authorities said. An additional eight people – including Wiescholek’s girlfriend – had previously jumped from the balloon as part of a planned skydiving experience and reached the ground safely.

The incident occurred early Sunday near the town of Eloy, about an hour southeast of Phoenix.

The nature of the problem contributing to the balloon’s drop continues to be investigated by authorities.
