Robert Fred Weitting, age 89, of Sturgis, passed away Wednesday morning, February 7, 2024 at Thurston Woods Villa in Sturgis.
He was born November 1, 19324 in Sherman Township, Michigan son of the late Fred and Josephine (Rambadt) Weitting.
Bob was a lifelong Sturgis resident.
On August 30, 1963 he married Susie Ellen Miller at the First Baptist Church in Sturgis. She preceded him in death February 9, 2020.
He retired November 30, 1994 from the Kirsch Company in Sturgis following 41 years of dedicated employment.
Bob was proud to have served his country in the U.S. Army from 1957-1959 earning the rank of Corporal.
He was a longtime active member of the First Baptist Church in Sturgis. He was also a member of the Motorhome Club. He enjoyed candle making, woodworking and motorhome caravanning. Bob was proud of his belt buckle collection that he built through his many travels. He truly loved traveling throughout the United States and had attended several World Fairs.
He is survived by his daughter: Delia Weitting of Sturgis; son: Robert Weitt, Jr. of Sturgis; step-son: Ron (Jean) Robinson of Lansing; grandchildren: Geoffrey, Tricia and Cashia; sisters: Beverly (Alan) Bell and Nancy Hartman both of Sturgis and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife and brother-in-law: Floyd Hartman.
The family will receive friends from 2:00 to 3:00 Tuesday, Feb. 13th at the First Baptist Church in Sturgis where funeral services celebrating the life of Robert Fred Weitting will immediately follow the visitation at 3:00. Pastor Doug Noonkester will officiate. A graveside committal will follow the service at Sturgis Memorial Gardens. Full military honors will be conferred by Captain John J. Kelley Post #1355 VFW and the U.S. Army Honor Guard.
