Brenda Covey-Mitchell, 78

Brenda Lou Covey-Mitchell, age 78, of Vicksburg, passed away on Wednesday, February 14, 2024 at Bronson Methodist Hospital in Kalamazoo. She was born in Wheeling, WV the daughter of Elizabeth Lorraine Camden. She was adopted by her parents, Paul and Elouise (Barton) Covey shortly after her birthdate. Brenda was a resident of the Indian Lake Nazarene Campground for nearly 30 years. She enjoyed taking golf cart rides to her friends houses to visit and enjoy a good campfire. Brenda loved country and gospel music, even though her voice was slightly off-key, she enjoyed singing along. She was known for her southern styled cooking, which was something that reminded her of her home, West Virginia, which she loved very much. Brenda loved spending time with her grandchildren and her family. Chapman Memorial Church of the Nazarene was a very important part of her life, and she loved spreading the word of Jesus to everyone and she did that by being a part of the Women’s Ministry. Even-though she was a West Virginian at heart, she was an avid Michigan Football fan and thoroughly enjoyed their Championship run in 2023.

Brenda is survived by 5 children; Debbie (Mark) Stephens of North Carolina, April Baker of Vicksburg, Julia Olson of Paw Paw, Rachel Gail (Mike) Cornell of Parchment, and Kristie Roberts of Kalamazoo; 3 siblings; Anne Beck, Larry (Terri) Pickens, and Darrell Keith Pickens; 18 grandchildren and 35 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her biological mother, Elizabeth Lorraine Camden, her adopted parents Paul and Elouise Covey, daughter Mary Ockerman-Papesh, son-in-law Andy Olsen, brother Harry Covey, and grandson Bobby Root.

Visitation for Brenda will be held at the Chapman Memorial Church of the Nazarene on Sunday, February 18, 2024 from 2pm until 3pm with a Celebration of Life beginning at 3pm with Pastors Brian Robbins and Ed Courtney officiating. It is suggested that memorials in Brenda’s name be made to the Children’s Ministry at Chapman Memorial Church of the Nazarene.
