CCTA millage approved by voters

For the first time in its history, Cass County Transportation Authority will benefit from local funding, as a millage proposal request was approved by a slim margin Tuesday.

The authority, previously one of the state’s three transportation agencies that did not collect local taxes, will be able to levy a new millage in an amount not to exceed twenty-nine hundredths of a mill for five years.

The millage, approved 4,372 in favor to 4,358 opposed, is projected to generate an estimated $716,000 for CCTA services in its first year.

Authority director Gerry Bundle said more than two-thirds of the agency’s passengers are senior citizens.
