Hazel A. Hoffine, age 86, of Douglasville, Georgia, formerly of Three Rivers, died Thursday, February 22, 2024 at Wellstar Kennestone Hospital in Marietta, Georgia. She was born July 21,1937 in Three Rivers, a daughter of Chandler and Naomi (Freese) Shumway. Hazel graduated from Centreville High School in 1955. She then received her Registered Nurse certification at Mercy Hospital in Detroit in 1958. On August 12,1967 Hazel married Jack K. Hoffine at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Three Rivers.
Hazel worked as a Registered Nurse at Sturgis Hospital from 1958 – 1968, then at Fairview and Heartland Nursing Homes from 1970 – 1991, and finally retired from nursing in 1999. She enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren. She loved gardening, canning, playing cards and games, and camping with friends and family. Hazel was a dedicated and active member at several Three Rivers area churches throughout her life including Three Rivers Bible Church, Three Rivers Christian Fellowship (now Riverside), Agape Family Church, and the Church of Chapel Hill in Douglasville, GA.
Surviving Hazel are her husband, Jack K. Hoffine, Douglasville, Georgia; son Scott (Jerry) Johnson, Ypsilanti, Michigan; daughters Judy (Chris) Crawford, Douglasville, Georgia and Julie (Frank) Gervasi, Savannah, Illinois; grandchildren Kurt (Abbey) Johnson, Roxanne (Mike) Bail, Jack Crawford, Will Crawford, Sarah Gervasi, Samuel Gervasi, Leah Gervasi; great grandchildren Audrey Johnson, Elliot Johnson, Emma Johnson, Olivia Bail, Amaryah Bail; brother George Rice, Centreville; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; son Michael A. Johnson; and siblings Robert Shumway, Josephine Crippin, William Shumway, Jack Richard Rice, Jean Anne Donley, and Dora Lee Bower.
Relatives and friends will be received Wednesday, February 28th from 6 to 8 PM at Eley Funeral Home in Constantine. Funeral Services will be at 11:00 AM Thursday, February 29th at the Eley Funeral Home, with Pastor Leon Troyer officiating.
