Mike Maurer, 68

Michael Jay Maurer, age 68, of Three Rivers, passed away on Monday, February 12, 2024 at Bronson Methodist Hospital in Kalamazoo.

He was born on May 24, 1955 and was adopted by Richard and Marjorie (Sills) Maurer.

Mike resided in Three Rivers and the Kalamazoo areas his whole life. Mike was a skilled musician and guitar player. He played in many local bands and practiced with several musicians. He created a business in Kalamazoo, where he would set up sound for bands. He loved listening to the blues and rock and roll, enjoying bands like The Rolling Stones, Van Halen, Rod Stewart, and Meatloaf. Living in the music scene he went to many, many concerts.

Mike liked spending time at his dad’s and spending time with his children. He liked telling jokes and listening, singing and playing music. Mike liked to play board games, cards, breakfast trips to The Pancake House and watching TV shows like The Simpsons and Married with Children with his kids. He loved hot tea and broiled tomato and cheese sandwiches. He was a clean freak and loved his leather jackets and gold jewelry. Mike was an animal lover and loved dogs. He bred cocker spaniels and had numerous cats over the years.

He is survived by children: Scott Maurer of Three Rivers, Ian Maurer of Three Rivers, Heather Maurer of Three Rivers, Layla (Anthony) Wagner of Vicksburg, and Shyanne Spradling (Maurer) of North Carolina; 13 Grandchildren; Sister: Michele “Mitzi” (Dennis) Shoesmith of Three Rivers; and one niece; Best friends: Harvey Newburry of Three Rivers;  and lifelong friend: Bill Webber of Three Rivers.

He is preceded in death by his parents.

In accordance with his wishes cremation has taken place. The family will receive friends and family for a celebration of life on Sunday, February 25, 2024 from 2:00 to 4:00 at Ray Funeral Services, 305 Rock River Ave., Three Rivers, MI 49093, 269-278-1515. There will be a private burial at Riverside Cemetery in Three Rivers.
