Three Rivers agrees to purchase property for transitional housing

Three Rivers City Commission has followed through on the purchase of a house to be used as a transitional residence for veterans.

Commission members last week agreed to purchase the house and property at 308 S. Main St. for $135,000. The city will lease the house to St. Joseph County, which will screen potential residents to determine who will qualify to live there.

St. Joseph County Veterans Affairs Director Stoney Summey has said the house has room for six occupants and maximum length of stay is nine months.

Summey has said federal grants through Supportive Services for Veteran Families will cover rent for occupants. Rent will be $700 per month, he said.
