Wrestling teams fall short in state competitions

A pair of local teams participating in the MHSAA wrestling tournament ran out of steam over the weekend.

Appearing in its first state quarterfinals appearance since 2001, Three Rivers was beaten by lower-ranked Greenville High School, 31-30 in Division 2 action at Wings Stadium.

Three Rivers entered the tournament with a 29-0 record on the season.

Meanwhile, Constantine High School, making its second straight final four appearance in team wrestling, lost its Division 3 state semifinals matchup against Dundee High School.

Dundee, the defending six-time state champs, topped the Falcons, 49-22. Constantine ended its season with a 27-3 team record. Dundee would go on to defeat Whitehall in the state finals later that afternoon 49-20 to claim its seventh straight Division 3 state title.
