Cleanup of demolished building continues

White Pigeon Zoning Administrator Doug Kuhlman said future plans regarding the now-vacant property in the 100 block of East Chicago Road will be determined by the village.

Kuhlman issued a media release Monday detailing the demolition of the building that housed the former Tasty Nut Shop.

For now, Kuhlman said, debris will continue to be removed, the area will be backfilled, topsoil will be added and grass seed will be spread.

Kuhlman said he can state with full authority that the site will not be developed for a new village office or any other facility for village purposes.

The building’s former owner, Union Block Building Committee, is attempting to create documentation of the life of the 160-year-old building.

Kuhlman said final sections of the building were brought down Saturday, four days after demolition started.

Meanwhile, White Pigeon Township Library has re-opened after it was closed briefly during demolition work taking place across the street.
