David C. Sedlarik, age 91, of Three Rivers, passed away on Friday, March 8, 2024, at Three Rivers Health after enduring a brief illness. He was born in Detroit on January 1, 1933, the son of Cyril and Mary (Smazenka) Sedlarik. David attended Durand High School graduating in 1952. After high school, David joined the United States Army and served his country overseas in Germany. On August 30, 1958, he married Shirley Ann Gomos at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Durand, Michigan. David was employed with Fisher Body / General Motors for over 35 years. In his free time, he loved to fish on Portage Lake. For years he had a shanty for ice fishing.
David was an avid wood carver. His detailed and intricate carvings included flowers, birds, animals, and single-point canes. David was a life-long artist creating pencil drawings, cartoons and portrait oil paintings. He enjoyed writing letters to family and friends which always included one of his drawings. He was a man of many trades who built houses and could repair anything. He was known for always welcoming people with a smile and had an enthusiasm to learn about others. Taking trips to the casinos with family and friends was always an enjoyable outing. He loved playing cards with his family, especially the game of Horse Thief.
David is survived by his wife of 65 years Shirley; six children, Shelly (Greg) Millard of Three Rivers, Valerie Cummings of Bend, OR, Teresa (Mitch) Miller of Decatur, MI, Jeff Sedlarik of Mendon, Melanie (Brent) Beaman of Linden, MI, and Douglas (Tonya) Sedlarik of Swartz Creek, MI; twelve grandchildren; Ben Millard, Julie Olson, Scott Millard, Breanna Barkley, Shannon Burstain, Joshua Miller, Andrew Miller, Steven Miller, Lukas Miller, Grace Franzel, Thomas Sedlarik, and William Winer; 12 great-grandchildren; and many cousins. David was preceded in death by his parents, Cyril and Mary, sisters Carole Jozwick and Sharrie Sedlarik.
Visitation for David will take place at the Eickhoff Funeral Home (311 W Main St, Mendon, MI 49072) on Wednesday, March 20, 2024, from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. A rosary will be said from 4:00 to 4:30. A funeral mass will be held at St. Edward’s Catholic Church (332 W. State Street, Mendon, MI 49072) on Thursday, March 21, 2024, at 11 a.m. with Msgr. Thomas Martin officiating. Burial will immediately follow in St. Edward’s Catholic Cemetery. It is suggested that memorials made in David’s name be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital or St. Edward’s Catholic Church.
