An Elkhart man died last week following an incident in Cass County’s Calvin Township.
Sheriff Richard Behnke said deputies were called shortly before 7 p.m. Thursday to Cassopolis Road and Bullhand Street in response to a two-vehicle crash.
Authorities said Alyssa Handschu, 20, of Osceola, Ind., was driving north on Cassopolis Road when her vehicle struck a deer in the roadway. Meanwhile, another vehicle was traveling south on Cassopolis Road when the impact of the first crash propelled the deer through the second vehicle’s windshield.
Authorities said the second vehicle crashed after driving off the roadway. Its driver, Daniel Haskett, 67, of Elkhart, was pronounced deceased at the scene, according to investigators.
Handschu was not injured.
