Leslie Jean Lewis, age 47, passed away unexpectedly on February 19, 2024. She was born in Sturgis on September 21, 1976, the daughter of David W. and Patricia S. (Kilpatrick) Merkle. Leslie faithfully served her country as a member of the United States Army, retiring with the rank of Sgt. First Class.
Leslie had a great love for the water and enjoyed going to the beach, pools, visiting lighthouses, and also loved her dogs. She was a very talented artist and was very gifted at painting.
Leslie married Tracy Allen Lewis in Three Rivers on August 30, 1998; he survives. She is also survived by her children, Christopher Merkle, Dustin Merkle, and Stephanie Lewis; her grandchildren, Henry Hawke, Lilly Lewis and Mia Kay Lewis; her mother, Patricia Merkle; her mother-in-law, Kay Lewis; her sister, Sonya Lewis; brothers, Keithie Lewis, David Merkle, Cliff Merkle, Paul Kilpatrick; and her aunt, Sandy Kilpatrick. Leslie was preceded in death by her father, David Merkle on October 9, 2011.
Funeral services with full military honors will be held at 2:00 on Tuesday, March 5, 2024 at the Fort Custer National Cemetery in Augusta.
