Nancy Lou Krontz Kissel, age 89, of Wellston, Michigan and a former longtime Burr Oak resident, passed away Wednesday morning, March 13, 2024 at Corwell Health Butterworth Hospital in Grand Rapids.
She was born February 1, 1935 in Sturgis, daughter of the late Arthur and Mabel (Maystead) Fisher.
Nancy resided in Wellston since 2020 coming from Zeeland. Most of her life was lived in Burr Oak where she was a graduate of Burr Oak High School with the class of 1953. She furthered her education at Battle Creek Community College where she earned a degree in dietary management.
On March 21, 1953 she married Leslie R. “Jake” Krontz in LaGrange. He preceded her in death September 29, 2003. She later married Richard Kissel at the Burr Oak United Methodist Church and he also preceded her in death in 2019.
While still a young girl she worked at the Artic Restaurant in Burr Oak. She was employed as a dietary manager at Thurston Woods Village in Sturgis, Miller’s Merry Manor Nursing Home in LaGrange, Three Rivers Manor in Three Rivers, and she was a homemaker.
She was a member of Sturgis Church of Christ, Wellston Seniors and her Euchre Club and she enjoyed playing Bingo with the girls and sewing. Nancy was a diehard loyal fan of the Detroit Tigers.
Nancy is survived by her daughters: Mary Jo (Gary) Siler of Howe, Indiana, Leslie (Daniel) Schwartz of Grand Haven, Debbie (Donald) Falkenstein of Wellston, and Linda (Daniel) Furbush and Ellen Jean (William) VanderZwaag both of Holland and Susan Middleton of New Port, Arkansas; son: Arthur (Cindy) Krontz of Sturgis; daughter-in-law: Susan Krontz of Burr Oak; 32 grandchildren, a multitude of great grandchildren and great great grandchildren and the many that knew her as grandma.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands, son: Raymond Krontz; granddaughter: Shannon Middleton Lambert; grandsons Jacob Hayes and Mike Kelly and Tee W. Tolle; great grandson: Austin Jacobs and Travis Jacobs; sons-in-law: Angel Ortez and Dean Middleton and sister: Sally Dodson.
The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 8:00 P.M. Sunday, March 17th at the Rosenberg Chapel of Hackman Family Funeral Homes, 807 E. Chicago Rd. in Sturgis where funeral services celebrating the life of Nancy Krontz Kissel will be held at 11:00 A.M. Monday, March 18th. The Rev. George Cleverley of the Sturgis Church of Christ will officiate. In honoring their mothers love for the Detroit Tigers those attending the visitation and service are asked to wear Tiger apparel if possible. A graveside committal will follow the service at Burr Oak Cemetery in Burr Oak.
