I’m pretty sure that a peanut butter and jelly sandwich can be classified as “The All American Sandwich”. My favorite is peanut butter and blackberry jam. That combined with a cold glass of milk can make a terrific lunch for just about anyone. Peanut butter isn’t just for sandwiches. Here are six other uses for that yummy treat that can be eaten right out of the jar, using just one finger:
Natural lubricant. Because of its high-fat content, being non-toxic, and inexpensive, it can be used as a lubricant for door holders (hinges) and drawer runners.
Shaving cream. The fat content creates a slick surface, allowing for a closer shave. The natural oils are believed to hydrate and nourish the skin, before and after a razor has been used. You don’t need to shake the jar before use.
Pest bait. Especially good with mouse traps. The smell and sweet taste are attractive to many smaller pesky animals.
Leather cleaner. Good for leather furniture, car interiors, shoes and leather jackets. Just apply a dab to a clean cloth and rub it in circles over the leather surface. Let sit for ten minutes before wiping away with a damp cloth.
Butter substitute. Using peanut butter instead of butter reduces fat while adding a nutty flavor. It adds protein to any meal.
Wood scratch repair. Use “Creamy” peanut butter by applying a small amount with a soft cloth. Let it sit for a few minutes before wiping off with a dry cloth. Then buff until desired results are achieved.
Just a reminder about the walleye dinner and silent auction that is going on this Saturday, March 23 at the Fraternal Order of Eagles #2303, 715 East Hoffman, Three Rivers. The fundraiser will benefit the Three Rivers Area Mentoring (TRAM). Tickets are only $17 per person and can be purchased at Lowry’s Books & More in historic downtown Three Rivers. The fun starts at 5 PM and runs until 8 PM.
We still have half a month before April arrives, but it’s not too early to let you know about Optalis Health’s annual Easter Egg Hunt and Pancake Dinner. On Monday, April 1, from 5:30 – 6:30 PM, Optalis Health will host an Easter Egg Hunt with a Pancake Dinner to follow. Optalis Health is located at 517 South Erie Street in Three Rivers. Just east of Beacon Health. This event is something the entire family will enjoy, and the Easter Bunny will be there to make sure the entire family has fun.
Palm Sunday is next Sunday, March 24. A reminder about the special organ recital that afternoon at 3 PM at the First Presbyterian Church, 320 North Main Street, in Three Rivers. Charles Collins will once again be at the Johannes Klais organ. The program will include the following:

“Eleven Chorale Preludes” – Johannes Brahams
“Three Quiet Pieces” – Derek Healey
