Eileen Bradley, age 99, of Colon, passed away on Thursday, April 25, 2024, at The Sparrow House in Sturgis.
Eileen was born November 30, 1924, in Kendal, Westmorland, England, a daughter of the late Thomas Lee and Eveline Mary (Robinson) Pickthall.
Eileen attended Kendal High, a private girls school.
When the second World War broke out in 1939, every 18-year-old was required to register for service in one of the armed forces. Eileen’s number came up, but she was excused from service because of an eating disorder.
She then went to work in a beauty salon. It was during this time that she met Donald E. Bradley who was serving as a pilot in the Royal Canadian Air Force.
When peace was declared he returned to Canada and entered medical school. Eileen followed him soon after and they were married in 1947 in Virden, Manitoba, Canada.
Eileen’s main hobbies were sewing, crewel embroidery, counted cross-stitch, and needlepoint.
Her home was decorated with many of the pictures she had done.
Her other love was gardening, and she cared for a beautiful flower garden.
Eileen also had a great love for dogs and had many during her lifetime.
She is survived by three children, Glenn S. (Pam) Bradley of Lawton and their daughter Abby of Kalamazoo, Anne-Marie (Mike) Woodruff of Colon, John T. (Gail Schley) Bradley of Colon; granddaughter Teresa Bradley of Colon, three great grandchildren, Jessica, Rebecca and Caitlin Beal; nine great-great grandchildren, and many relatives in England.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband; a son Barry D. Bradley, one sister, Evelyn; two brothers, Leslie and Jack; and a grandson, Ryan (Glenn and Pam).
Cremation has taken place. Per Eileen’s wishes, there will be no memorial service.
