Jaymon McClain, 26

Jaymon Thomas McClain, age 26, of Mendon, ascended peacefully to Heaven on Wednesday, April 17, at 11:30 a.m. after a 20 month battle with a rare form of Leukemia. He was born October 26, 1997 to Raymond J. McClain and Sandra Minne.

Jaymon narrowly began his life in intensive care with a host of lifelong medical challenges.  Jaymon attended Pathfinder Education Center in Centreville from age 2.5 years  until his well-attended special graduation ceremony held at the St. Joseph County ISD just prior to his passing.  Jaymon also attended the inclusion program in Mendon for most of his Elementary and High School years.  Jaymon overcame early significant cognitive, social, physical, and behavioral challenges to become an impressionable and peaceful  person of character, and lover of Jesus and people.  He was awarded St. Joseph County ISD Student of the year in 2018.  He very much enjoyed reading books aloud to the younger students at school and was always empathetic to those in distress.  He is well known for his creative sense of humor, spinning dance songs as a school DJ, and recorded a radio spot interview advertisement for a St. Joseph County cooperative that aired for a year on WBET 99.3.  His aforementioned graduation was a lifetime achievement and brought him great pride and he deeply touched all the lives he came in contact with.

Jaymon was preceded in death by his sister Jaylynn, and survived by his father Raymond and stepmother Kim McClain, mother and stepfather Sandra and Dave Batey, sister Taylor McClain, as well as step siblings and grandparents.

Keeping with family wishes, cremation is being conducted.  Visitation for Jaymon will take place at the Eickhoff Funeral Home (311 West Main Street, Mendon, MI 49072) on Saturday, April 27, 2024 from 1pm until 2pm, with a memorial service beginning at 2pm.  A private interment will take place at a later date.  It is suggested that memorials or donations in Jaymon’s name be made to the family.  Condolences and memories may be expressed to the family at eickhofffuneralhome.com
