Man arrested after stealing car and fleeing police

A LaGrange County man was arrested after driving a stolen car and attempting to elude police earlier this week.

Undersheriff Jason Bingaman said deputies were involved in a pursuit Tuesday that originated in Florence Township. Authorities said the suspect was allegedly driving a car stolen from the 64000 block of Burgener Road in Florence Township.

Deputies observed the stolen vehicle leaving the scene and initiated a pursuit. Deputies and officers with White Pigeon Police Department successfully deployed stop sticks several times.

Deputies said the pursuit traveled through Florence, Sherman and Nottawa townships. The situation came to an end after the suspect vehicle crashed into a utility pole.

A 39-year-old man from LaGrange was taken into custody after fleeing the crash scene on foot.

He is charged with motor vehicle theft, fleeing and eluding, and felonious assault, investigators said.
