A reminder of the Kalamazoo Ringers concert this coming Saturday, April 27. The venue is the First Presbyterian Church of Three Rivers/Centreville, 320 North Main Street, Three Rivers.
The concert will begin at 7 PM and will feature the Kalamazoo Ringers performing on seven octaves of hand-bells and six octaves of hand-chimes.
After the concert, everyone is welcome to meet the ringers and get an up-close look at the bells and chimes. A free-well offering will be taken.
Highway Cleanup is in full-swing, so as you are driving the state highways, be on the alert for those volunteers who are out picking up trash along the shoulders of the highway. If you have never been part of highway cleanup, you have no idea how much fun and rewarding this experience can be. Once you have helped with this service, you’ll never throw another piece of trash out your car window. Kudos to all of you who have given of your time to help keep our highways more scenic and trash-free.

If you’ve ever been to Hawaii, chances are you’ve gotten your fill of pineapple. In most cases, whenever the subject of pineapples comes up, Hawaii is the first thing one thinks about. However, it is believed that pineapples were first cultivated around 750 BC by the Maya and Aztec civilizations in what is now Mexico. The tropical climate of the region provided ideal conditions for growing the fruit. Over time, it made its way to South America, Central America, and the Caribbean as a trading commodity.
Pineapples, which rank among the most popular fruits in America, have been sought after treats for centuries. Once considered an exotic delicacy reserved for the wealthy, the fruit is now widely available at a modest price in most US grocery stores.
The Gals of ’62 met this last week for lunch at Main Street Cafe in historic downtown Three Rivers.
These gals are all classmates from the Three Rivers High School class of 1962. For years these gals have done their best to gather about once a month at one of the many local eateries in Three Rivers. There are about five or ten that make the event. They spend their time reliving old memories and catching up with each other on what’s happening in their current lives. Not all of the girls live here in Three Rivers, but that doesn’t keep them from traveling a few miles to enjoy the camaraderie. This last time, one came all the way down from Rockford, just on the other side of Grand Rapids.
I’m pretty sure they all still remember the words to the Three Rivers fight song. “Come on and fight you Wildcats, do not pause. Come on and fight you Wildcats, for the cause.”
These gals are not all that vicious, but they still have that Wildcat spirit. Once a Wildcat, always a Wildcat. Mrs. Agosti would be proud.
