Despite its massive size, Lake Superior is an extremely young formation by Earth’s standards. It’s only 10,000 years old.
Lake Erie is the fourth-largest Great Lake in surface area, and the smallest in depth. It’s the eleventh largest lake on the planet.
There are massive sinkholes in Lake Huron that have high amounts of sulfur and low amounts of oxygen, almost replicating the conditions of Earth’s ancient oceans three million years ago.
The largest fresh water sand dunes in the world line the shores of Lake Michigan.
Babe Ruth hit his first major league home run at Hanlan’s Point Stadium in Toronto. It landed in Lake Ontario and is believed to still be there.
The St. Joseph County Conservation & Sportsman Club, hosted a Field Day on Saturday, April 20. This event’s purpose was to provide future hunters with the opportunity to take the test that is needed in order to obtain a hunting license for this year. Each student had already taken the online course and learned the basic safety skills in order to become a safe and successful hunter. There were 39 students in attendance and all were successful in obtaining their certification.
The St. Joseph County Conservation and Sportsman Club (SJCCSC) was established in 1937 to promote conservation, fishing, hunting, and safe, ethical participation in the shooting sports. It has a non-profit 501 c-4 tax status and has no paid employees. The club is located at 23640 Featherstone Road, Sturgis, Michigan 49091.

The Annual Michiana Swap Meet is happening this Friday and Saturday, May 3 and 4. As usual, the St. Joe Valley Old Engine Association will host this family affair at Boot Hill Ranch, located at 10542 Bair Lake Street, near Jones, Michigan. The admission fee is only $5.
Vendors are always welcome and you don’t need to pre-register. For more information, check out the St. Joe Valley Old Engine Association on Facebook or SJVOEA.org. Oh yes, there will be plenty of food available on the grounds
Pickleball has become a very popular sport, especially for those approaching those golden years. The sport is not as dangerous as handball, but you can still get injured while still trying to stay healthy and fit. Most injuries sustained by picketball players age 60 and older result from slips, falls, or dives. Wrist fractures are more common among women, while men are more likely to develop strains and sprains. It’s recommended to wear shoes that support lateral motion, such as those worn by tennis players. Avoid running shoes, which are designed for forward motion.
To prevent strains and sprains, it’s suggested that you warm-up for five or ten minutes prior to playing. Doing so will loosen up your large lower-body muscles and shoulders. Play for the fun of the game.
