Salvation Army seeks volunteers

National Association of Letter Carriers’ annual “Stamp Out Hunger National Food Drive” is less than a month away and volunteers are being sought by a Kalamazoo-based agency.

Oliver Knuth, volunteer coordinator for Salvation Army of Kalamazoo County, said the collection is May 11.

Carriers collect non-perishable food donations left by mailboxes and in post offices, and deliver them to local community food banks, pantries and shelters. The food is then sorted and delivered to locations, including Salvation Army of Kalamazoo County, where it is made available to families.

Knuth said volunteers will be needed 12:30 to 5 p.m. May 11 at the Parchment Post Office. Help will be needed again May 13 and 14 at its Kalamazoo Program Support Facility, 4141 Davis Creek Court.

Knuth hopes to secure 40 volunteers across the three different days. Prospective volunteers can commit through Sign-Up Genius or by phoning Knuth at 269-743-0684.
