St. Joseph County deputies are asking for the public’s help in identifying a suspect who has or attempted to break-in to residences in Mendon village limits.
Undersheriff Jason Bingaman said the agency fielded a call around 9 p.m. Sunday from the victim of a home invasion. The incident occurred in the 200 block of Fletcher Street.
Authorities were told the homeowner was gone for several hours and returned home to find evidence that someone had been inside without authorization.
Deputies then responded around 2 a.m. Monday to the 200 block of East Main Street to a report of someone trying to enter a residence. The subject was scared off by the homeowner, deputies said.
About 90 minutes later, around 3:30 a.m., deputies responded to the 100 block of East Main Street in response to a homeowner who discovered a person inside their residence.
The subject, described as a white male, approximately 5-foot-8, in his 40s and with a tattoo on his upper right arm.
A K-9 team was unable to track the man after he fled on foot from the scene.
Mendon Police Chief Mike Kline has released a new and fairly clear photo of the suspect. The photo has been posted to Facebook.
