Barbara Jane Sutcliffe, age 91, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May 7, 2024 at Maple Lake Assisted Living in Paw Paw. She was born on March 1, 1933 in Hillsdale, the daughter of Helen Padget.
Barbara attended Centreville High School and was part of the 1951 graduating class. After high school she married George Sutcliffe in 1953. During Barbara’s working life, she was a telephone operator for over 30 years. She was known for being a master of the kitchen, able to bake anything at a moment’s notice; more importantly, what she baked was delicious. Barbara enjoyed the simple things in life and did not require much to be happy. Hanging out with her friends over lunch, coming home to bake a work of art, and playing with a dog was a picture-perfect day for Barbara.
Barbara is survived by her siblings; Shirley Vroman and Phyllis Traxler; many nieces and nephews, cousins, and friends. She was preceded in death by her mother Helen, husband George Sutcliffe, brother John Hensel, sister Joyce Smart, and step-father Lee Murphy.
