A 45-year-old Mendon woman died Thursday morning in a two-car crash in Mendon Township.
Undersheriff Jason Bingaman said deputies were called around 8 a.m. to Silver Street, just north of Pinhook Road, in response to a personal-injury crash.
Investigators determined that a 24-year-old man from Hillsdale County was driving north on Silver Street, where his vehicle struck head-on a car driven by Melissa Hallack. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
The other driver was treated at Bronson Hospital. His condition was not indicated in a sheriff’s department media release. Deputies said alcohol is believed to have been a contributing factor. The at-fault driver’s name is being withheld, pending results of the ongoing investigation, deputies said.
Authorities confirmed Hallack was a recently hired assistant prosecutor for St. Joseph County.
