The National Weather Service has now surveyed the damage and confirms an EF2 tornado touched down in St. Joseph County on Tuesday. The survey team says the tornado touched down one mile south of Centreville at 5:41pm, and then tracked northeast, passed north of Colon, then crossed into Branch County. The tornado finally weakened and lifted three miles southwest of Union City at 6:11pm. Peak wind was estimated at 130 miles per hour. The tornado was on the ground for 20 miles, with a maximum path width of 950 yards. The weather bureau says extensive damage occurred to trees and center pivot irrigation systems along the track, with the most significant damage occurring from north of Colon to north of Sherwood. Several structures also sustained loss of roofs and walls.
