Thelma Jean Shears, age 86, of Howe, Indiana passed away Sunday, May 19, 2024 at the home of her granddaughter in Angola.
She was born March 2, 1938 in Coldwater, a daughter of the late Lehman E. and Nelly E. (Yankey) Closson.
On Jun 15, 1957 in Bronson, she married Ralph D. “Joe” Shears. He preceded her in death Nov. 24, 1995.
Thelma had been employed by Doerr Products, Greenfield Research, DaVinci’s Restaurant, and Snyder Laundromat.
She enjoyed being outdoors and camping and loved animals and meeting people.
Surviving are one son: Jeff L. Shears of Sturgis; one daughter: Penny Gerber of Mongo, IN; a sister: Evelyn Sklar of Farwell, MI; two grandchildren: Jessica Hale of Angola, and Bradley Johnson II of Mongo, IN, 3 great-grandchildren: Trevon Nalley of Angola, Jaden Hale of Constantine, and Sheelyn Hale of Angola.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and one son: Terry L. Shears.
Graveside services celebrating the life of Thelma J. Shears will be held at 1:00 on Thursday, May 23, 2024 in Burr Oak Cemetery, 455 Highland Ave., Burr Oak, with Pastor Chris Alldredge, officiating. Memorial donations in her memory may be directed to ARK Animal Rescue, 530 E 300 S, LaGrange, IN 46761. Envelopes are available at the Hackman Family Funeral Homes of Sturgis, MI who have been entrusted with the arrangements.
