Centreville schools hold groundbreaking at elementary building

Centreville Public Schools officials staged a ceremonial groundbreaking Monday in advance of an expansion at the district’s elementary building.

A group of kindergarten students joined board and community members in an area on the northeast side of the school to acknowledge the impending development of a cafeteria and music room.

The 5,200-square-foot, $3.5 million addition will be to the north end of the school. Students currently eat lunch in the gymnasium and music classes are held behind heavy curtains on the gymnasium stage.

Funding was made possible through a May 2023 millage-increase request approved by the district’s registered voters.

The addition is scheduled to be completed in April.
