Chris Schwartz, 85

Chris Schwartz, Jr., age 85, of Sturgis, passed away surrounded by his family at 10:45 pm, on Monday, June 10, 2024 at his son’s home in Nappanee. He was born on November 23, 1938, in Crawford County, PA, to Chris Sr. and Elizabeth “Lizzy” (Hostetler) Schwartz. On June 21, 1959, in Findley, MI, he married Edna Irene Bontrager, she died November 10, 2023.

Surviving are daughter, Janice (Martin) Polo of Tampa, FL; three sons, Bruce Schwartz of Elkhart, Wayne (Michelle) Schwartz of Cape Coral, FL, and Rick (Jennifer) Schwartz of Nappanee; 11 grandchildren, five great-grandchildren; four brothers, Lester (Nanci) Schwartz, Ray (Sandra) Schwartz, John (Joyce) Schwartz, and James (Gloria) Schwartz; sister, Barbara (John) Hooley.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, sister, Marie Schwartz, brother, Eli Schwartz, and twin brothers, David and Levi Schwartz.

Chris provided masterful workmanship in every trade that he worked, but most of all he greatly enjoyed sharing his talents with his family, friends, and those in need. In his early years he worked in a mobile home factory in Indiana before beginning his own company, Chris Floor Service, where he taught and shared his talents with his sons, plus the help from his wife, Edna. Chris enjoyed sports, especially the Detroit Tigers. He coached Little League, as well as the Locust Grove Mennonite softball team. Other hobbies included coin collecting, watching sports, camping, and spending time with family. He was a member of Clinton Frame Church and previously a longtime member of Locust Grove Mennonite Church. Chris sang in the choir of both churches for a total of over 45 years. His greatest passion was caring for his wife, Edna, especially over the past 20 years when her health was declining. She was his “Sunshine”.

Visitation will be from 2:00 to 4:00 pm and 5:00 to 7:00 pm on Thursday, July 11, at Clinton Frame Church, 63846 CR 35, Goshen. There will be a Celebration of Life Service at 1:00 pm on Friday, July 12, also at the church. Services will be conducted by Pastor Russell Jensen. Burial will be in Clinton Frame Cemetery, Goshen. Memorials may be directed to Builders of Hope.
