Crash survivor remains hospitalized

The survivor of a two-car crash that killed a Mendon-area woman last week remains hospitalized.

Undersheriff Jason Bingaman said the 24-year-old man from Hillsdale County has not been arrested or charged as his recovery takes place at Bronson Hospital.

The man was driving a car north on Silver Street around 8 a.m. May 30 when it crossed the center line and struck head-on a vehicle driven by 45-year-old Melissa Hallack. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Authorities confirmed Hallack was a recently hired assistant prosecutor for St. Joseph County.

Deputies said alcohol is believed to have been a contributing factor.
