George Richard Diethrich of Marcellus, a man of unwavering strength and a sharp engineering mind, passed away on June 10, 2024 in Cassopolis, at the age of 86. Born on August 16, 1937, in Constantine to Wilbur and Marjorie (Guthrie) Diethrich, George was a distinguished individual whose life touched the hearts of many. George attended Three Rivers schools, and graduated from Three Rivers High School with the Class of 1955.
After serving his country in the United States Army, George embarked on a successful career path that led him to work in sales and engineering. He dedicated his skills and expertise to companies like Peterson Springs in Three Rivers and their Kalamazoo location, Kalamazoo Springs. His hard work and dedication left an indelible mark on those around him.
In his personal life, George was a loving husband to two remarkable women. He was married to his first wife, Donna until her passing in 1998, and together they had a daughter named Doris. On July 14, 1999, he found love again and married his current wife, Anna. Some of the fondest memories shared by George’s family revolve around his meticulous lawncare routine. He took great pride in maintaining his lawn, spending countless hours on his mower perfecting every line. George’s motto was there are three ways to do things: the right way, the wrong way, and then George’s way. And as long as it was done George’s way, the other two ways didn’t matter.
Outside of work, George enjoyed various hobbies that brought him immense joy. Whether it was the thrill of deer hunting season or the peacefulness of turkey hunting, he cherished being outdoors. His passion for golf provided him with relaxation and camaraderie with friends. However, George will be best remembered for his exceptional wood craftsmanship in his wood shop.
George Richard Diethrich will forever be remembered for his strength of character, dry sense of humor, and keen engineering mind. His legacy lives on through the memories shared by family and friends who were lucky enough to have known him. May he rest in peace knowing he made a lasting impact on all who had the privilege of crossing paths with him.
George is survived by his wife of 24 years, Anna; two daughters: Doris (Bruce) Joanis, of Niles; and Cindy (Richard) Rolback, of Paw Paw; four grandchildren: Justin (Lauren) Joanis, Mathew (Katie Hendrix) Joanis, Alexis (Jake) Longshore, and Madison (Jack Jennings) Ball; eight great grandchildren: Gavin, Logan, Sydney, Mason, Jack, Austin, Charlie and Bo. He is also survived by his two brothers: John and Karl Diethrich, and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Donna; his parents: Wilbur and Marjorie (Guthrie) Diethrich; and his sister, Mary Beth White.
A graveside service will be held on Monday, June 17th, 2024 with military honors at Poe Cemetery at 11am.
