Gerald (Jerry) Iveson Butler, age 85, a resident of Strawberry, Arkansas, peacefully departed this life on Saturday, October 7, 2023, at his residence that he always referred to as “Butler Mountain,” surrounded by his loving family. He was born March 27, 1938 to the late Clarence Wesley and Pynie Malone Butler in Rivervale, Arkansas.
In 1954 he moved to Michigan. He worked at Neff’s Greenhouse and Mastercraft Furniture. He did furniture deliveries and learned to install flooring. In 1970 he opened his own flooring business, J&D Carpet, with Richard Downer and Rex Blood. He moved back to Arkansas in 1976.
Gerald was a carpet installer most of his life. He loved the game of golf, gardening, and working in his shop. He had a passion for antique cars.
In addition to his parents, Gerald was preceded in death by his loving wife of 54 years, Jewel Ann Butler; one brother, C.W. Butler; two sisters, Billie June Jones and Neva Jo Sherrod; one grandson, Michael Moore; and one great-grandson, Nathyn Moore.
He is survived by his devoted son, Steven Butler, who shared his home, as well as his three beloved daughters: Susan Wentworth of Larwill, Indiana, Sharon Jacobs (Mark) of Three Rivers, and Patty Price (Donald) of Walnut Ridge, Arkansas; one brother, James Butler (Estelle); and one sister-in-law, Virginia Meabon (Loren). Gerald leaves behind his eight grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, and countless friends.
