James Woermbke, 73

James H. Woermbke, age 73, of Nottawa Township, Mendon, died on Saturday, June 8, 2024 at his home. He was born April 15, 1951 in East Chicago, IN a son of John and Loretta (Mataski) Woermbke. James graduated from Roosevelt High School in East Chicago in 1969 and furthered his education at Florida Institute of Technology in Melbourne, FL and at Embry Riddle Aeronautical University. On October 21, 1972 he married Barbara Wintczak at Immaculate Conception Church in East Chicago.

James worked as a senior pipe fitter for Local 597 out of Chicago for 22 years. He then began his career at Armstrong International in Three Rivers, retiring in 2014 after 21 years of service.

He was a member of Three Rivers Elks #1248 where he was Exalted Ruler from 1998 – 2002 and 2007 – 2008. James enjoyed being with his family, loved cruises and fishing.

Surviving are his wife Barbara Woermbke, Mendon,  daughter Andria Woermbke, Mendon,  4 granddaughters Paige (Jesse) Ferguson, Kettering, OH, Phoebe, Piper and Penny of Mendon, brother Jack (Gail) Woermbke, Winimac, IN, and sister Suzanne (John) Sharpe, Palatine, IL, several nieces and nephews.

James was preceded in death by his parents, John and Loretta Woermbke, formerly of East Chicago, grandparents, Stanley and Anne Mataski, East Chicago,  nephews Brian Woermbke, of Wanatah, IN and Paul Steinhauer Jr. of East Chicago.

Cremation has taken place. A Memorial reception will be held July 20, 2024 from 2 to 4 pm at Three Rivers Elks Lodge # 1248. Memorial contributions may be directed to Three Rivers Elks Lodge # 1248. Sign James’ guest book and leave a message for the family at www.eleyfuneralhomes.com.
