MDOT update on US 131 construction

Michigan Department of Transportation’s Chris Jacobs has issued an update regarding the second phase of U.S. 131 construction.

Work, which started April 15, is concentrated to an area that includes the village of Schoolcraft and an area north to Shaver Road.

According to Jacobs, completed work includes installation of a storm sewer from Lyon Street to Eliza Street; three crossovers have been paved with a hot-asphalt mix application; shoulders have been leveled with hot-mix asphalt north and south of the railroad crossing; and permanent pavement markings have been added south of XY Avenue.

Two-week outlook includes installation of a storm sewer south of Homes Street; curb and sidewalk installation south of Lyons Street; and hot-mix asphalt leveling in median lanes north of Lyons Street.

Workers were expected this week to implement a traffic shift for northbound traffic north of West XY Avenue to the south end of Schoolcraft. Meanwhile, crews have announced that the railroad crossing at the south end of the village is expected to be fully closed starting July 8.
