Sophia I. Miller, age 89, of Thurston Woods Village, Sturgis and formerly of Three Rivers, died Thursday, June 6, 2024 at Parkview Randallia Hospital in Ft. Wayne. She was born December 19, 1934 in DeKalb Co. Indiana, a daughter of the late Daniel and Elsie (Curlis) Pierson. Sophia lived in Indiana until the age of 10, when she moved to Sturgis. On June 26, 1954 she married Reuben Miller in White Pigeon. He preceded her in death on March 15, 2022.
Sophia loved to crochet. She was family oriented and loved to spend time with her children and grandchildren. She and Reuben spent 27 years wintering in the south. Sophia was a member of the New Hope Assembly of God in Three Rivers. She retired from the St. Joseph County ISD, where she worked with special needs children. Sophia truly loved her job but retired for health reasons. She often spoke of the children she worked with and missed them terribly after her retirement.
Sophia is survived by her children Ken and Pamela Krontz, Pidock, GA, Dennis and Teri Krontz, Sioux City, IA, Geri & Terry Bloom, Coldwater, Elizabeth and Fred Carmel, Ft. Wayne, Randy & Cheryl Miller, Three Rivers; 11 grandchildren Kenneth Michael, Sondra, Stephanie, Heather, Travis, Trevor, Tyler, Eric, Ashley, Allison, and Matthew and several great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, 5 brothers and 6 sisters.
Relatives and friends will be received Thursday June 13, 2024 from 10 to 11 am at Eley Funeral Home in Constantine, where Religious services will follow at 11 am. Pastor Steve Miller, New Hope Assembly of God, Three Rivers, will officiate. Interment will follow in Constantine Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be directed to New Hope Assembly of God.
