Hesper Goodpaster, 101

Hesper Hattie (Freier) Goodpaster, age 101, of Sturgis, went home to be with the Lord Monday morning, July 1, 2024 at Thurston Woods Village in Sturgis.

She was born February 11, 1923, in Ocqueoc, Michigan, daughter of the late Paul and Nettie (Doolittle) Freier.

Mrs. Goodpaster graduated from Rogers City High School with the class of 1942 and furthered her education at Moody Bible Institute in Chicago, studying for 1 ½ years.

On November 17, 1946, she married Roy Goodpaster in Wolcottville, Indiana. He preceded her in death.

Mrs. Goodpaster enjoyed being a housewife and mother, reading, music, playing games such as Scrabble and UpWords, sewing, knitting, and quilting.

She is survived by her four children: Norma (Stephen) Pribble of Lansing, Lola (John) King of Carmel, Indiana, Jerry (Cindy) Goodpaster of Lititz, Pennsylvania and Dennis (Sue) Goodpaster of Sturgis; 12 grandchildren; 36 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, four brothers: Orrin, Vester, Sterling and Merritt Freier and one sister: Waiva.

In accordance with Mrs. Goodpaster’s wishes, cremation has taken place. The family will receive friends from 10:00 to 11:00 A.M. Tuesday, July 9th at the Rosenberg Chapel of Hackman Family Funeral Homes, 807 E. Chicago Rd. in Sturgis where memorial services celebrating the life of Hesper Goodpaster will immediately follow the visitation at 11:00. Hesper’s son-in-law: Pastor Stephen Pribble will officiate. A graveside committal will follow the service at Oak Lawn Cemetery in Sturgis.
